Don’t worry…this is a quick one. Here at work we have vending machines. (As I’m sure the rest of you do as well who are at other companies…but ours are better)Our vending machines have apparently been converted to Power-Saver mode, and equipped (equipt? e-Kwipt?) with motion sensors to know when someone enters the vending vestibule. These motion sensors activate the machines to power on, illuminate, and begin accepting cash for caffeine.
So I’m familiar with this phenomenon and have experienced it many times, but today was a first. As I entered the vending venue, EVERY SINGLE MACHINE suddenly came to life at once. It was like I’d won the jackpot or something! All of a sudden 5 dollar acceptors started their whirrling and zzzzzzzzzzzing noises (you all know what they sound like so sorry if we don’t have a letter in the English language to describe it), the lights all came on, the doors unlocked for business (I know this because the pepsi machine tells you that the doors are locked, then when they unlock it tells you the version of software the machine is running - how quaint), and the machine was ready to accept my money in exchange for delicious, cold, crisp, and effervescent, diet pepsi.
I almost broke into song at the warm feeling that coursed through my body as these machines all activated for my needs. However, writing this, I do feel a bit of guilt since I only visited one of the 5 machines that sprang to life, hoping that I would pick them over the others. Now I feel like a tease.
Bad Heath. Bad, bad Heath!
