Randompedia, the Wikipedia Alternative | Homo sarcasmus - the official blog of Heath L. Buckmaster

So I ran across something a while ago that is fun, festive, and a total time sink if you allow for it.

You know how Wikipedia has taken off as a wonderful resource for educational material, definitions, references, etc…and I love it. I am all for it. Especially, because now I don’t have to have 26 volumes of the Encyclopedia Brittanica in my house (which I didn’t have anyway), in order to bulk up on my knowledge of the world.

But there are a lot of things that just don’t fit into a normal encyclopedia. Therein lies the value, I think, of the Randompedia. I created an account for myself and started creating articles over the past year. (Same concept as what you do on wikipedia, as they both run the wiki engine technology)

I’ve created silly things, like Ass In Motion Day, Corporate Jargon, Exotic Cyber Mystery Person, and I’ve noted what it means to have a lot of tea.
I’ve also been practical, and posted recipes for BBQ sauce…and a list of all of the Television Shows of the ’70s, 80s and ’90s that I used to watch.

Other people have created accounts and added poetry, and some pretty crazy and random acronyms; someone even created a pretty funny visual explanation of how Randompedia was created.

Check it out, create an account and have some fun! Just make sure the knowledge you share is completely crazy and random!

The About Randompedia page says it best: It’s not an encyclopedia of general knowledge…it’s a Randompedia of random knowledge.

And really, what’s better than random, useless knowledge? :-)

Cool - thanks for sharing! I’d never heard of it.

Have you seen Encyclopedia Dramatica (not sure of the URL - just google)? Sort of a spin off of Wikipedia for “internet drama” and wackiness. All fluff, no substance. Very funny. :-)
