American Idol – Season 6 – Top 10 Guys
Posted by: heath In: American Idol| Music| Television
Once again it’s time for the boys to bore…but wait…it’s not The Dull Top 12, it’s the Not-So-Bad Top 10 this week! Most of the gays guys actually did quite a bit better than last week…but still a couple of them really do need to get ready to head home after their performances. (more info below about the strikeout)
Let’s check out the run through.
Before we begin, I’d just like to go on record that I, also, like puppies.
Kicking off the evening was Phil Stacey. Since this was dedication week, his montage showed a little dedication to his Navy boys back home. Singing “Missing You” was an odd choice for me, not bad vocals, but I hated the background singers. Simon must have agreed because he didn’t seem to think it was very unique. He’ll be here another week, and he’s not gay, although with the whole navy thing, you could wonder.
Jared Cotter was up next with a dedication to his parents. He gave us a very cheezy rendition of “Let’s Get It On”. Even the outfit he was wearing was cheeze. I felt pretty good about my assessment when Simon said it was like a corny Love Boat. He might be on the way out. No one on google seems to care if he’s gay or not.
A.J. Tabaldo was up next, also giving props to his mom and dad. The beginning of “A new dawn, a new day, a new life” was pitchy for me. I loved the song, but I didn’t love him. For the most part, however, the judges liked it. I think they need to review the tape. Probably not gone this week, but top 6 will be tough. (Next to Blake Lewis, AJ is the second most guy that googlers hope is gay)
Sanjaya Malakar. Ok what the hell was up with that ridiculous hat? He dedicated the performance of “Stepping Out with my Baby” to his grandfather, and frankly I think his grandfather is the only person who would have loved it. He looked a bit like Michael Jackson in that outfit, but his singing was breathy, childish, and at times it was like he was whisper singing. In fact, let’s just address this right now…he can’t talk. He can only whisper. Stop singing ballads and learn to SPEAK IN A NORMAL VOICE. Please oh please be out this week. He’s another one that googlers think is gay, but honestly, with that hair, are you serious?
Chris Sligh gave us some hair care tips (use a lot of conditioner) before hitting us with “Trouble”. Like him, but not the song. The judges, however, loved it all. So did his wife Sarah, who was the dedicatee. Safe, and obviously there are no searches for Chris Sligh Gay.
Nick Pedro did a little “Fever” for his girlfriend. Sorry, not so much. I felt like he was the Tylenol getting rid of my fever. Breathy, boring, and although Simon was snapping his fingers during the song, I don’t think they really paid attention. And please Ryan, stop the “vote for pedro” gimmic. It was stupid in Napolean Dynamite and it’s stupid here too. Didn’t like it, but he’s safe, and another one who’s hitting up the search fields for gay.
Up next, beat boxer Blake Lewis, who actually gave us a bit of scattin’ with “Virtual Insanity”. He also thanked his parents for getting him this far, and while I didn’t care for the song, I love how he gets into it. He’s a very versatile performer, and I love the facial hair. Absolutely safe after this one, and the one who is still getting the most google hits on “Blake Lewis Gay”.
Brandon Rogers, who dedicated “Time After Time” to his grandmother is one of my top 2 to get voted off this week. It was absolutely horrific. What lyrics was he singing anyway? Have I been singing it wrong since the 80’s? I didn’t like it at all. The saving grace however, was that he announced it was his dad’s birthday today…but that’s not the funny part. Simon decided that since it was no longer a singing competition but a dedication competition, he’d reveal that his mom’s birthday was in six months. He also, offhandedly revealed “and I like puppies.” Frankly I couldn’t stop laughing. It was the best bit of the evening. Unfortunately, I think Brandon is out, maybe because no one thinks he’s gay.
Up next, the woofable hotness that is Chris Richardson. He gave us a little “Geek in the Pink”, and dedicated it to his “spunky grandma”. He’s very bouncy when he sings, and if he weren’t so hot, it would be distracting to me. Did his mic go out a couple times during the song? I can’t be sure…but just like me, the judges absolutely LOVED it. Best of the night in their minds. He’ll be in the top 5…that’s my prediction. There are a few gay searches for Chris, and while that’s a nice fantasy, it doesn’t matter to me, he’s sexy regardless.
Rounding out the evening was Sundance Head, dedicating his song to his new baby boy, Levi. Ok folks, I’m sorry but that was NOT a pretty baby picture. “Mustang Sally” did NOT work for me. The same lyrics over and over again, and though he sounded a bit like Meatloaf, who I like, it was boring and unspecial for me. The judges had a completely opposite reaction, and LOVED it. I doubt he’s going home, even after an awful Hollywood and Top 12 round. No gay searches here either, since it’s obvious he’s straight, but it’s still surprising since he’s a total bear and it’s a furry fantasy.
So there you have it…tomorrow night, the girls. Let’s hope they bring it, and let’s hope Antonella Barba gets voted off
. (Excellent write up on “The Antonella Barba Situation” @ BuddyTV)
As the show was ending, Ryan put in a few plugs for the new show hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, about answering questions from 5th grade text books. You could win up to $1 million dollars! Ryan asked for a sample question, to which Jeff responded with “how many sizes are there on a trapezoid”. It was entertaining watching everyone try to figure it out before Ryan quickly ended the show. Thanks for the plug…but I could have done without the constant camera shots on Jeff clapping throughout the show.
