American Idol - Season 6 - Top 20 | Homo sarcasmus - the official blog of Heath L. Buckmaster

American IdolVoting over, it’s time to reveal who you think is the weakest link singer.

Recaps: Top 12 Guys, Top 12 Girls

Who is out?

Girls: Amy Krebs and Nicole Tranquillo

Guys: Paul Kim and Rudy Cardenas

Why are they out?

Amy: Basically Simon was right. She was like a candle, with no personality, and the voters blew her out last night. Among the women, it seems like it’s going to be hard to stand up against the three black power singers in the group. Gina Glocksen might be able to, but the others should pack their bags right now instead of putting themselves through the remaining torture. Sorry Amy, you just weren’t a star in the sea of the milky way, and all those runs last night gave me a stomach ache.

Nicole: Although the octave was too low, and Simon told her the performance wasn’t genuine, Nicole was not one of my top girls to go home right away. I’m truly sad that Antonella Barba didn’t get this spot. She should never have made it to Hollywood (but apparently all her air time, and naughty pictures on the internet are keeping her in place). So just for that, I’m sorry to see Nicole go. Otherwise, she wasn’t in my top 5 to begin with, so no big loss there.

Paul: Perhaps the barefoot gimic was a turn-off to viewers. Personally, I’m not sure it’s something that would have maintained my interest all the way to the Top 12. It was cute at first, but if you want to be a pop idol, you have to act like one, and they all wear shoes. Unfortunately, to be on AI, you have to compromise who you are sometimes. Goodbye to the Asian contingent of the show.

Rudy: It didn’t help that he sang first, because by the end of the show, he’d been completely forgotten by the viewers. If if you have Tivo, none of you went back to the beginning of the show to actually listen again. You watched the quick snippets of recap, and then made your decision for Chris or Blake like I told you to. :-) Sorry Rudy, you weren’t featured enough to this point for us to fall in love with you.

Aside from all of the voting and torture that typically accompanies the “kick-off” shows…we had a group performance that I refused to discuss, and Fantasia performing and revealing she’s going to be in The Color Purple. I mean, she’s an awesome singer and all, but…

Yeah - sorry to say that I’m only concerned about who made it into the Top 20 this week. Featuring past American Idol stars is nice and all, but their turn to shine has already happened on the show - let them revel in their success elsewhere, while the new contestants can be the ones to shine.
