American Idol – Season 6 – Top 10 sing on Gwen Stefani night

barba.jpegWell my goodness. Events of tonight kinda make you wish that Antonella was still on the show…don’t they? I think you know what I’m talking about, but we’ll get to that in a moment.

It was Gwen Stefani night on American Idol. What a hot number she is, even though she barely moves her mouth when she talks. She is cute as heck though, and I love a bunch of her. But let’s get things started…

Lakisha Jones – “Last Dance” – a great Donna Summer track, and she had on some hot boots and a fierce outfit. Great job on the entire song, as she moved it and grooved it across the stage. Randy thought she was a “true fly diva” and Simon “loved the boots”. Super start to the show and one of my favourite songs.

Chris Sligh – “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” – please go back to singing Christian Contemporary. This was so completely off beat! Gwen even warned him about this. Weak vocal, hate the hair (perm?), and a very wierd ending in that arrangement. The only up side was the viewer question for Chris, “how much down time do you have and how do you spend it?” In true Chris fashion, he answered, “knitting, crocheting, and playing bongo’s in boxer shorts”. Although really, they sleep when they aren’t rehearsing.

Gina Glocksen – “Stand By You” – holy hotness! Boots, outfit, hair, boyfriend, all of it was hot hot HOT! Love me some Gina. Although she didn’t move around the stage too much, Simon thought it was her best performance ever, and so did the other two judges. Great job Gina!

Chinese CrestedSanjaya Malakar – “You’re My Kind of Girl” – WTF. I barely have words here for what we experienced tonight. What transpired this evening probably made you WISH that he only had the perm, but no. Tonight we were introduced to the 7 pony-tail faux-hawk. I’m just beside myself. They haven’t even posted pictures on the AI website. I think it’s because they are scared. Terrified even. He’s gone from Whitney Houston after hurricane Katrina, to a Chinese Crested. Awful vocals, as expected. He forgot the words to the song (and the judges didn’t even bother mentioning it to him) and Simon summed it up with, “you are in your own universe and if people like you, good luck.”

Haley Scarnato – “True Colors” – an absolutely wonderful song that was demolished tonight. I love this song, but not when sung by a girl who looks like a preacher’s wife. PTL anyone? Boring, shaky voice. Randy said it was pitchy, and “just a’ight”, while Simon said it was “nothing to remember really…too safe.”

Phil Stacey – “Every Breath You Take” – it’s a good thing he was wearing a beanie hat tonight, because when he picked up the mic stand I was screaming. However…his response to the viewer question actually summed up his performance tonight. Q: How does it feel to go from being unknown to a household name? A: crazy, strange, exciting. And that was the performance. Picking up the mic stand was crazy, the hat was strange, but the performance was exciting. I really have to say that although he sang the song almost exactly like Sting does, I really liked it. Randy “liked it dawg” and so did Simon. Good job Phil.

Melinda Doolittle – “Heaven Knows” – Heaven knows that she’s going to win the competition is more like it. Another Donna Summer hit. Gwen loved it, and so did I. The outfit rocked, even though Simon hated it, but he hates all fashion other than skin tight t-shirts…great singing and attitude. She does all the right things, all the time.

blake2.jpgBlake Lewis – “Love Song” – Um. Is it just me or were all the judges blind, deaf, and dumb on this one? While Blake looked fiercely hot tonight, the performance was CRAP. I hated the vocals, I hated the song choice, and as usual he looked completely angry/pissed off during the song. Randy loved it although questioned the song choice. Paula loved it, and Simon told him he is the “strongest guy in the competition”, at which point David screamend, “WHAT?!” (Check here to see if Idol 2007 is still in love)

Jordin Sparks – “Hey Baby” – Cute school girl outfit, but I didn’t personally like the song choice. However, it was young and fresh and perfect for her. David’s thoughts, “Oklahoma meets Jodie Watley’s earrings meets Hermione Grainger’s skirt…cute and kicked it up dawg.” You can’t make this stuff up people. The judges loved it, though Simon had to bring it down a bit telling her it was a “bit copy cattish.”

Chris Richardson – “Don’t Speak” – I regret that I must say, I wish this had been “Don’t Sing”. You all know that I love Chris Richardson, but the vocals just were not there tonight. It was shaky all around, too much bouncing, it sounded like he forgot a word, and even Gwen pointed out that Chris “does vocal olympics” vs. focusing on the song and emotion. Simon was validly concerned. I think it was just an off night, but he’s falling behind.

That ends the Top 10 on Gwen Stefani night. Tomorrow we narrow the field to the Top 9. My choices for ouster are Haley, Sanjaya, and Chris Sligh. However, I’m concerned that since Chris Richardson was in the bottom two last week, and with a poor performance this week, he may be on the cutting board. That would hurt me.

LOL! I saw the Sanjaya clips today. Is it just me or did he look like he was auditioning to play the lead in a history musical called “The Last of the HoMohicans”? Someday, somehow, he’s gonna get the last laugh allllllll the way to the bank.

I’m with you, Heath, on your choice of the bottom three. Sanjaya is frightening when he starts doing his mating rituals, Haley makes your average Stepford Wife look like an amateur, and Chris, well, every little thing he does is about three seconds slower than every little thing the music does.

hi nice site.

  • heath: Oh Tommy...your comments mirror those of the Dawg as well. They thought Lee's voice was too big for the song. I don't think it was too big, but I can
  • Tommy Marx: Gotta disagree with you on this one sweetie. Yes, Crystal and Siobhan were definitely the best of the women, and while I didn't like the song he sang,
  • heath: Glad we're on the same page regarding Lee ;-). Otherwise, I'm really bored this year. I was hoping that we'd have another big personality like Adam L
