We’re getting closer and closer to the grand finale, but first we have to get rid of Haley or Phil (those were my predictions from last night’s performance). Was I correct? Let’s find out!
Kicking off the night was a horrendous group-sing. I had hoped they were getting rid of these, because they haven’t done them consistently every week, but this time, we suffered through Bailamos. Did anyone notice that when Haley and Sanjaya sang, they weren’t singing the same words? Awful group sing, awful choreography (if you can call it choreography).
I liked the new opinion gathering section that Ryan did at the LA farmers market. Hilarious, and even Haley’s diminishing wardrobe was featured by a few interviewees.
Guest #1: Akon. I sent Tivo into Fast Forward Flurry through his performance. I’m not into that kind of music, so, whatever. I’m sure some people like him.
Ford Commercial break: “Happy Together“. Again, don’t like the song, but I liked the morphing effects they did. It reminded me of Michael Jackson’s Black or White video with the faces morphing into each other. Otherwise, didn’t like the commercial in general. No surprise there.
Video montage of Simon in Africa with school children. This was the highlight of the night, when the little girl showed him a picture she’d drawn of him, with boobs. Apparently even children in Africa can see Simon’s enlarged pecs. I think you can even see them from space.
More funny footage of a never before seen audition - Tony Bennett, and the judges trashing his “performance”. Very cute.
Recap from last night - including the fun judges comments, then time for the bottom three. Phil, Haley, and Chris. (what was with the teasing of having Sanjaya keep standing up then sitting down??)
An interesting point I noted was that when Phil and Haley went to center stage, the audience clapped. When Chris was sent to the middle, everyone boo’d. And I also noticed that Chris stood a few paces away from Phil and Haley, as if he knew he wasn’t part of “that group”. And of course, Chris was sent back to safety on the couch.
Phil - we’re so glad that you feel you are “blessed to be here“, but try to come up with something more original next week when you’re out.
J. Lo montage and performance. The bangle bracelets are killing me. I hate them, hate them, hate them. She looked like she had two black eyes with all that makeup going on, and she was wearing a dressing gown. Otherwise, high entertainment value - with pyro effects, fog machines, dancing, and other misc. visuals. Awesome performance. And frankly, I love her personality. She seems very playful and fun to be around.
Final Results: Haley is out. I know that Idol 2007 will scream with glee about this, and know that the anti-biotic innoculations for America finally started working.
Stay tuned for next week, as Martina McBride brings a little country music to American Idol.

Dude, didn’t the make-up make Jennifer look old? Who the hell is her stylist?
