American Idol – Season 6 – Top 2 at the Kodak

Posted by: heath In: American Idol| Music| Television

Well folks, we’re down to the last two American Idol posts for this season. I know there are those of you who will jump for joy that you won’t be subjected to these posts any more…tough :-) .

jordinsparks.jpgWe’re down to the last two contestants as well, and those two folks are Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. I put Blake second in my list because I don’t want him to win. Enough said. We’re at the Kodak Theatre for the finale, and it’s sure to be…interesting. So let’s go and get it over with.

Paula tripped over her dog and hit her nose – it looks fine. Montage about the Seattle auditions, where Jordin and Blake came from. We get a fashion show of everything Blake has worn the entire season…then a montage of how proud everyone is of Jordin. Heck, I’m proud of her. Coin toss and Blake will be performing first tonight.

3 songs – their favourite, a new song they’ve never heard before, and the third is from the song writing competition winner.

Blake is up first with “You Give Love a Bad Name”, which he performed on Bon Jovi night, and it featured his 6 minute long beat boxing. I didn’t like it the first time, and I sure as heck didn’t like it the second time. Fast Forward. Mixed reaction from the judges, but they agree that Blake is the best performer (not the best singer).

Jordin rocks the house with “Fighter”. Loved it. I agree that her performance points are lesser than Blake, but I think she can grow into that. Randy repeated this by saying her voice is stellar, but her performance was lacking. Paula repeats. Simon didn’t like it.

blake2.jpgMore montage of Blake and how he learned to beat box – then he takes the stage to perform “She Will Be Loved” by Maroon 5, a song he’s never sung before. Sorry folks, fast forward. Randy/Paula loved it. Simon didn’t.

Jordin is back with Martina McBride’s “A Broken Wing”, after another montage. I am not a fan of country, which I’ve mentioned before. So I regret that I will not provide commentary on this song other than she was stellar. Randy thought she was better than the original; Paula loved it; Simon loved it.

Blake is back for his final number, which comes from the winners of the songwriting competition – “This is My Now”. Blake’s vocals were completely off all night long. He was pitchy, and completely boring. Randy thought it was “a’ight”; Paula liked it of course; Simon thought it was odd and that Blake looked frustrated.

Jordin now takes the stage with her version of the same song, “This is My Now”. I got chills. It was beautiful. David even walked through and mentioned how fantastic she sounded. Love, love, love. Randy said she should win the competition; Paula talked about how great her parents are; Simon told her that she “just wiped the floor with Blake on that song”.

My prediction is that Jordin wins by a landslide.

  • Tommy Marx: Gotta disagree with you on this one sweetie. Yes, Crystal and Siobhan were definitely the best of the women, and while I didn't like the song he sang,
  • heath: Glad we're on the same page regarding Lee ;-). Otherwise, I'm really bored this year. I was hoping that we'd have another big personality like Adam L
  • Tommy Marx: This year has turned out pretty bad. When the most exciting singer is Jewel 2.0, I'm not expecting much. None of the guys has really got my attention,
