I have just completed an upgrade to Wordpress 2.2, which includes widget support built in. So since that’s all built in, I decided to change themes to something that was widget aware, but still in line with my desires for crispness, blackness, and smoothness.
Well, mostly the blackness, and two columns of information.
So here is the current theme I’m playing around with, called Royale, by tom. Each of the components on the right sidebar is now a widget, vs. being one flat file. This allows me to move things around pretty dynamically, add new widget boxes or components, etc.
For example, the technorati widget at the bottom right is simply code plugged into a little widget box. Neat huh? I’m sure many of you have been doing this for some time with Wordpress - so I’m a bit behind the times I suppose.
Anyway - let me know what you think. Do you like the layout? Do you have favourite widgets that you love that I should love as well? Leave me a comment and let me know what has worked well for you!

This is great. It’s kind of a little thing, but I really like how the date looks.

Funny you say that, that was what drew me to the theme in the first place. I’m really picking about how the date of a post is presented, and when I saw the formatting of this, I knew it was the theme I wanted to use first.

Very nice! I like it. I’ve never been a fan of fluid layouts, but this one looks nice.
Here are a couple of my favorite widgets: Fresh Comments and Library Thing.
