A new church play, featuring GUNS!

I’m sure you’ve all heard by now the news from Illinois about a man who killed a church pastor and slashed a few folks with a knife. It’s tragic when anyone is killed, but there are some things about this story that I just don’t understand.
First, the media really seems to be hyping that the pastor “deflected the first of the gunman’s four rounds with a Bible“. Are they trying to say that the Bible saved him from being killed by the first bullet? Why didn’t god stop the next three as well? I really don’t understand their point in using that as their headline…anyone?
Second…since when do church plays involve guns? Here’s another quote from the same article:
“We thought it was part of a drama skit … when he shot, what you saw was confetti,” said congregant Linda Cunningham, whose husband is a minister of adult education at the church. “We just sat there waiting for what comes next, not realizing that he had wounded the pastor.”
I’m not making this up.
I used to be very active in the church when I was younger, and the youth group did a lot of skits…but I don’t ever remember ANY skit involving a gun, much less something more benign like a knife…or even nail clippers.
What church do these people go to that a skit would include a GUN?! And really…is it necessary for them to describe the bible bursting apart as “a confetti-like spray of paper“…???
This falls into the category of tragedy made worse by sensationalist media.
