After last week’s double elimination we’re down to the Top 5, and this week is the Rat Pack Standards. This is the week that you expect Matt Giraud to shine, because it’s his style, his comfort zone, his genre. Let’s see how he and the other folks did when working with mentor Jamie Foxx.
(I want to also point out that this week was the first time in the history of Idol that I have gone onto iTunes and downloaded performances…yes, it was Adam.)
- Kris – The Way You Look Tonight – Very hot. This goes to show you can get zero TV coverage during the audition process and still come out a winner on the show. Great smooth job.
- Allison – Someone To Watch Over Me – I dislike this song, but the girl can belt it out. Very nice job and loved the outfit.
- Matt – My Funny Valentine – What a crazy night on this one. David and I thought it was VERY pitchy, and we had such high hopes. The ending was good for me, but the big shocker was that Simon LOVED it.
- Danny – Come Rain or Shine – Boring. Yawn. He’s so much more endearing in the pre-show clips. On stage he sounds exactly the same. For some reason the judges completely adored him. I will admit the end of the song was pretty good.
- Adam – Feeling Good – I can sum all this up in one word, YES!!!!!! What an entrance, what a swagger, what a performance!
Out This Week: I’m predicting that America is done with Matt.
Update: I was correct. Matt is out. But the big surprise of the night was Adam in the bottom two. Could this be a sign that we’re going to have a repeat of the Chris Daughtrey “early kickoff”? Regardless, Adam is going to be a star…but it would be nice to see him go all the way.
