American Idol 2009 Top 7

Posted by: heath In: American Idol| Music| Television

We’re getting close to the cream of the crop folks – and that’s what I consider to be the Top 5. I’ll let you know who I think should be in that Top 5 in a minute, but first let’s talk about what happened when the Top 7 performed. As usual, there were only a few highlights.

  • Allison – Don’t Want To Miss a Thing – Don’t like this song. Intro was way too low and some of the words got lost. Really missed her rock edge on this one, but as usual she sang it perfectly and put just a touch of her own spin on it. But I wanted more.
  • Anoop – Everything I Do I Do It For You – Very nice. Excellent pitch, emotional vocal, probably one of his best performances on the show. And he’s becoming more and more endearing as the weeks go by, and less nerdy looking.
  • Adam – Born To Be Wild – There aren’t even words to describe how happy I was about this performance. He’s amazing, he’s incredible, and I think the biggest compliment is that David said “don’t delete that I want to watch it again.” If that’s not an endorsement I don’t know what is.
  • Matt – Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman – Don’t like this song either. Didn’t like the arrangement, pitchy spots, and he did way too much with the melody. Either completely change it and make it your own, or sing it the way it was intended otherwise you get lost in the song.
  • Danny – Endless Love – I’m really torn on this one. At some points I thought the vocal was amazing, and at other points I was cringing because of pitch problems. Once again though, he didn’t listen to the coach and he used his hands way too much.
  • Kris – Falling Slowly – I have no idea what any of the words were in this song, nor do I know what the song was in the first place. He has a great voice, but it concerns me when contestants pick songs that 90% of the audience doesn’t know.
  • Lil – The Rose – I think it’s pretty much over for Lil unless something magical happens. Week after week she has been picking songs that completely diminish her power voice. This one was pitchy all throughout, and I really wonder whether her heart is still in the competition.

OUT THIS WEEK: I’m predicting it’s going to be Matt or Lil. And the update is that as I predicted, Matt was on the verge of being out – but then we experienced the judges save…and well….we have him for another week. Next week I think he and Lil will both be on the chopping block.

Cheers!

I am so happy you liked Anoop’s performance! I have been rooting for him all along. I thought he did a very good job.

Danny was wearing his wedding ring again. Normally I would have no problem with this but he has had it off in previous weeks so it makes me think that he uses it for sympathy when his numbers are lower. But who knows, maybe he was getting it re-sized and that is why he had it off previously.

I agree with your prediction. I am hoping Lil will go because you are right, she seems like her heart is no longer in the competition.

I was very impressed with Anoop actually, and it really pained me to say that parts of Danny’s song were really good too. But, I have to be objective.

Adam is still my #1 pick, whether he wins or not he’s going to be a superstar, and I’ll buy his album.

Hehe I knew it pained you. Good job at being neutral Heath!

I think Adam is too big for AI. You are right, he will be huge no matter how well he does in the competition.

  • heath: Oh Tommy...your comments mirror those of the Dawg as well. They thought Lee's voice was too big for the song. I don't think it was too big, but I can
  • Tommy Marx: Gotta disagree with you on this one sweetie. Yes, Crystal and Siobhan were definitely the best of the women, and while I didn't like the song he sang,
  • heath: Glad we're on the same page regarding Lee ;-). Otherwise, I'm really bored this year. I was hoping that we'd have another big personality like Adam L
