We’re getting so unbearably close to the finals that I can’t stand it! This was Rock Week on American Idol – so the two that should completely breeze through are Adam and Allison. This will be completely out of league for Kris and Danny though, so let’s see how they do.
Adam kicks off the show with Whole Lotta Love, listening to feedback from the guest mentor, Slash. Holy crap he absolutely rocked the house with this performance. From the outfit to working the stage to the brief guitar solo – I loved the performance even though I don’t really care for rock music. He’s completely safe, and Simon even said that no one would be able to top that performance.
Allison was up next with Cry Baby. She looked fantastic, but I did not like the song at all. I really wasn’t the right choice for her, and there were pitchy spots on some of the high notes. There could be trouble brewing here.
Next up an absolutely painful duet from Kris and Danny. They both looked completely uncomfortable singing Renegade together, and frankly they didn’t sing it together. If this was supposed to be a duet then neither of them know the definition. They acted like two independent singers who just happened to be on the same stage singing the same song. There was no interaction, and Danny actually looked angry the whole time.
Kris was up next with Come Together. I like Kris, but not the song. Not his style or genre at all, and I really wish he had de-rocked the song into something his own. Again, he looked very uncomfortable and we actually saw his personality completely deflate.
Danny tried to conquer Dream On, but the song completely demolished him. Glasses #43 made an appearance, along with a horribly pitchy performance throughout. Simon was on-point to call the final note like a horror movie. It was awful and I didn’t like any part of it.
The show closed out with a duet from Adam and Allison – Slow Ride. Now this was the way to sing a duet. They played off of each other, they interacted on stage, and they looked completely comfortable working together to achieve a great rock performance. The judges were right in saying these two need to make music together.
RESULTS SHOW:
Group Sing – School’s Out. Crap.
Paula Abdul performed her new single, I’m Just Here For The Music. I like the song, but what’s with all the lip sync’ing that is so obviously lip sync’ing? Every other performer does it live and works it out…she seemed lethargic in the dancing, but I still love the song. Did anyone else notice a special someone from So You Think You Can Dance in her backup dancer group? That’s right – Benji Schwimmer!
No Doubt was up next performing I’m Just a Girl – the week before they kick off their new tour of old music. The performance was frenetic, but live singing.
Kris was the first to be sent to the safety of the Top 3…followed by a shouting performance from Daughtry. Aren’t we tired of him and his 5 Million album sales yet? I guess not. Incidentally this was the week he was kicked off the show, and unfortunately that did not bode well for our other rocker – Allison.
Allison is out, leaving the Top 3 of Adam, Kris, and Danny.
Disappointing to say the least – Danny should have been the one to go after a series of awful weeks…but it is what it is. Let’s hope Adam continues to put himself into a league of his own and make it all the way. I’m anticipating it will be an Adam/Danny finale.
Cheers!
