WTF was that finale intro?????????????????????????????????

A boxing match??

I’m astounded. I’m shocked. I’m aghast. I may never watch again.

They must have realized no one was watching the show any more and might not notice. Either that or the new director is on craque.

I am, of course, still going to watch….

David Archuleta is astoundingly incredibly amazing. And really, so is David Cook. If it were any other people in the Top 2, I would have deleted the show from my season pass.

And so for me…the winner of American Idol season 7 is……… David.

For everyone else who needs more specifics…Cook.

He was incredibly gracious, and it became quite evident that the judges preferred him winning to Archie. And really when I think about the season, this was the right choice.

Wow.

I’ve been saying “wow” a lot lately in reference to American Idol.

I don’t know about you, but performance night was a major snooze fest. I’m hesitant to even categorize this post in the “music” category.

Paula actually seemed coherent during the entire show, which was new; and there was zero drama with David Archuleta’s dad because they only showed him on camera for about 1.8 seconds.

dh_ap.jpgAnyone else miss this guy right about now? I can’t even remember his name. Oh that’s right, it was also David.

At least he offered some eye-candy, which we haven’t had on the show in WEEKS.

The songs were incredibly boring and useless - none of them showed off what the singers can actually do, and in some cases, probably doomed them (think Syesha here).

I knew it would be down to the David’s - Cook and Archuleta - but I really don’t care who wins because they’ll all get contracts at some point, and apparently already do. Blah, blah, blah.

The possibility of surprise is gone. I’m ready for So You Think You Can Dance.

I think I may have previously predicted that the David’s would be in the finals…so for the last several weeks, there haven’t really been any surprises.

We all knew that Brooke would never make it, and certainly not the apathetic alleged stoner Jason Castro who was finally removed last night. I’m a little surprised that it’s not Carly in the final three, but I think the showcase of tats finally got to the audience.

At this point, next week will be the only possible “big surprise” week of the season. Last season it was the Top 4 when Chris left. This time it will be a huge shocker if the final two is a boy/girl mix.

Honestly I don’t think that Syesha has any chance at winning the show, but she might give one of the David’s a run for their money into the finals. If that does happen, it will be this season’s big shocker moment for all of us. Those who still care that is. And I guess I’m assuming you care if you’re reading this, all two of you.

I wasn’t able to watch the performance show this week due to the magic of DirecTV not broadcasting the HD channel that I’d set as a season pass for AI. But from what I’ve read and heard, I didn’t miss very much. Actually, that’s not true - I saw exactly 11 minutes of the show - Jason’s final performance, and David Archuleta’s final performance. David was wonderful of course. We won’t talk about Jason any more.

Anyway…what I’m really looking forward to now is whether Dale will ever get kicked off Top Chef, and the season premier of So You Think You Can Dance coming up in just a few weeks :-).

Wow…just…wow….what kind of drugs are in those Coke glasses?

And I think we all know what I’m talking about.

I have nothing more to say about the topic except that thank goodness we don’t have to hear any more from Mrs. Oops I did it again can I restart the song?

American IdolHello America - Top 7 tonight - let’s go!

Theme: Mariah Carey week

  1. David Cook - “Always Be My Baby“. He’s really got a great voice. I am enjoying him more and more each week. I don’t really care for the song all that much, but I very much enjoyed the performance, especially the minor key at the very end. Very nice job!
  2. David Archuleta - “When You Believe“. Was he wearing leather pants? Oh dear. And what was with those stupid girls in the pit waving their hands back and forth? Stop it, you’re ruining his amazing song. He really sounded like a pop star on this one. I don’t like what he’s doing with his hair, but he’s on his way to the top of the chart. We were also treated to his falsetto tonight - very nice.
  3. Jason Castro - “I Don’t Want To Cry“. Yet another rasta-esque performance from the boy with the hair. I’m really over this style of performance with him. He sings soft songs constantly that do nothing to really show off his vocal power. Every song sounds the same. They sound good, yes, but they sound the same. And the jeans jacket?? *sigh*
  4. Kristy Lee Cook - “Forever“. You knew it was going to be bad when Mariah told her it was “really really good” through strained teeth. The song was awful. I couldn’t hear any of the low notes, there was zero power behind them. Pitchy during rehearsal and again during performance. Everything can’t be a country song KLC. Just awful.
  5. Brooke White - “Hero“. Very pitchy performance. I’m tired of Brooke now. I’m tired of her sitting behind a piano or a guitar in every song. The performance sounded restrained and held back. Why was her entire head shaking while she was singing? It was like she was paying too much attention to playing the piano and not to the singing. Very, very poor job tonight.
  6. Syesha Mercado - “Vanishing“. Meh. I completely forgot she was singing while I was watching, until she hit the final power note. It was good, but the rest of the song was boring, and did anyone notice that she didn’t hug Mariah when she first met her? Yeah, that wasn’t very nice.
  7. Carly Smithson - “Without You“. There was way too much “ssssss” going on in this song. I don’t like the hissing when singing. Pick a song without so many s’s. I didn’t like the song or the performance at all. I could barely hear her during parts of the song, and it was insanely boring. Pitchy, not great at all. I did, however, like that she covered up her tats - and I’m sure Doug appreciated this too.

Results: Kristy Lee Cook is FINALLY out. I think we can all be thankful for this. Let me hear an Amen. How dare she sell her favourite horse to go to an audition. Shame. Shame.

Just like her song from last night, “Forever“, it took forever for her to be eliminated, but we can now finally enjoy the show as it was meant to be.

I also think that was quite possibly the WORST group-song to date.

American IdolHello America - we’ve reached the Top 8, and we’ve also come to the week for Idol Gives Back. It’s three full nights of Idol this week, from performance, to charity to voting. So let’s get moving.

Theme: Inspirational Songs, keeping with the Idol Gives Back theme

  1. Michael Johns - “Dream On“. I really hate the way he sings and pulls back from the mic as if he’s in pain. I also don’t like the way he hugs the mic stand, or, or the ascot. Or the outfit. Or the hair. And I’m getting tired of the accent too. He always looks restrained when he sings. And I’m tired of the rock. The falsetto was HORRIFIC.
  2. David Cook - “Innocent“. The beginning was very rough for me for him. I could not understand any of the words until he started yelling. Partly this is because I’ve never heard this song before. I think the octave was way too low for me to enjoy the song. Too much shouting that did not show off his talent at all.
  3. David Archuleta - “Angels“. First off, I love that he chose this Robbie Williams song which I adore. Second, I do wish he would stop bouncing when he sings. Nearly perfect pitch throughout, although some parts were a little soft for me. The ending however was awesome.
  4. Jason Castro - “Somewhere Over the Rainbow“. I did not enjoy the performance in general…I would like him to stop playing an instrument and just sing. His voice was fine, he hit all the notes, but I did not feel special. When Kat sang this last season, I loved it, but this one, not so much.
  5. Kristy Lee Cook - “Anyway“. This performance goes to show that if you want to get out of the bottom three, you have to show off your boobs and sing about God/Jesus. Oh, and don’t open your eyes when you sing. I don’t think this will get her out of the bottom three at all, and hopefully this is the last week for her. I’m so over it.
  6. Brooke White - “You’ve Got A Friend“. What the hell is she wearing? Is it Austin Powers night? She looked completely dejected and sad singing this song. I just didn’t feel any inspiration. He voice crackled and was very pitchy as well. Maybe she’s “sick” like everyone else has been all season.
  7. Syesha Mercado - “I Believe“. The contestants never listen to the judges to they? Never sing a previous Idol song because you will be compared to them 1 for 1. Be unique. She didn’t do a poor job on the song, but I was sort of bored. And apparently Syesha didn’t have the “special connection”.
  8. Carly Smithson - “The Show Must Go On“. I did not care for the rocking back and forth as she sang. I also think she lacked the desperation needed to really carry this song. Remember Moulin Rouge? That’s what this song needs to really bring the emotion to it. Her voice sounded weak at points and she was flat all over the end of the song.

Idol Gives Back: I’m only going to provide some highlights of the show since I don’t want to bore you all to tears…

How cool is it that the show kicked off with the American Idol kids and the So You Think You Can Dance kids in a song/dance medley? Very cool. We had big smiles on our faces as we tried to remember all their names. The song itself was crap, but the dancing was great.

What is wrong with Maria Schriver’s face? Did someone use the “pinch” function in Paint Shop Pro on her nose and cheeks? Wow…you really can see the Kennedy in that nose can’t you?

Only Snoop Dogg could get a group of millionaire guests to wave their hands back and forth like idiots. Oh, and what was on Kobe Bryant’s face? Did he have a huge zit he was trying to cover up?

Who knew that Teri Hatcher could um…sing? Very funny little setup, but not as funny as Mary Murphy from SYTYCD screaming until someone calls to donate.

Ok…I’m bored…you all don’t need a run down of the entire show, needless to say they raised a lot of money and they had a lot of stars on the show. You can check out msnbc Reality TV page for more details.

Results: Michael Johns. Quite a shocker, I agree, and unexpected at this point because I really thought he would be in the Top 5…but I have to say, this doesn’t really make me upset because I was completely over him as you read above. Sorry folks - but if you want to see the Aussie you can see him on the tour.

Michael was joined in the bottom three by Syesha and Carly. Again, not a surprise, but I am indeed shocked that Kristy Lee Cook wasn’t in the bottom three. She can’t use her silly little sign any more I guess.

I also find it odd that they assume all the Idols are Christian, with their choice of opening song…I don’t get it. What if one of them doesn’t believe in Jesus, God, prayer, etc.? Can they just say, “I’m going to sit this one out”? Doubt it. Seems very exclusionary to me.

The last thing I will mention is how cool it was to see Eddie Izzard in the “stars montage” they rolled before the actual vote off show began.

Oh…and was Jordin Sparks lip syncing?

Cheers everyone!

American IdolHello America - we’ve reached the Top 9. These are still the people that you will see on the American Idol’s Tour this coming summer, so I hope you voted well…personally, I still won’t be going to the show.

Theme: Dolly Parton week -love me some Dolly Parton!!! Oh and it was also Paula was drunk night.

  1. Michael Johns - “It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right“. Um, no. Hated the yelling, didn’t like the ascot, tired of him. Even the accent doesn’t keep me interested any more. Very poor song choice for his voice, and he did a disservice to it. Whiny performance. I’m over him. I fail to understand how the judges can just sing his praises after such a crap performance.
  2. David Cook - “Little Sparrow“. He looks like he coloured his hair - it looks very interesting. This was his own arrangement of the song, which I really enjoyed. However, I did not enjoy the audience clapping in the background. Shut up people. And stop waving your freaking hands. Excellent song, excellent arrangement, excellent vocals. (Incidentally, David was taken to the hospital after the show with heart palpitations)
  3. David Archuleta - “Smokey Mountain Memories“. Incredible. Amazing voice. Not my favourite song, but he’s just superb. Not a single pitch problem anywhere. Loved it.
  4. Jason Castro - “Travellin’ Thru“. Weak vocals at the beginning, could barely hear what he was singing. Middle of the song was better for me for him. I still hate the hair but like the face. Very pitchy in spots, but in general pretty good performance and I like the song except for the religious elements.
  5. Kristy Lee Cook - “Coat Of Many Colors“. I was so tempted to fast forward through her performance, but I really like the song. Did not like it at all. The fake country accent, ridiculous. Completely disrespectful to Dolly. Boo. Boo.
  6. Brooke White - “Jolene“. Great song choice, one of my favourites of Dolly’s. Boring and completely forgettable performance. She sang it just fine, only a few pitchy spots for me, but singing a slow song as the show opener will never get you remembered by the end of the night. Seemed like the song was over in 30 seconds as well…which makes it even more forgettable. To quote Paula: “You are Brooke White.”
  7. Ramiele Malubay - “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind“. She looked completely uncomfortable singing the song. It almost looked like she was trying to remember the words as she was singing them. She’s definitely NOT a country singer, and the little schoolgirl outfit did nothing for me. Pitchy in spots, boring, forgettable.
  8. Syesha Mercado - “I Will Always Love You“. Everyone will compare this to Whitney Houston, and everyone will say that Syesha was boring and forgettable. Personally, I love both the Dolly and the Whitney versions, but I do not like the Syesha version. I don’t like her sitting on the piano, don’t like the hair, don’t like the arrangement, don’t like anything about it, however, I will give her props for the power note at the end.
  9. Carly Smithson - “Here You Come Again“. I love this song, and I think finally Carly chose a song that shows off the tone of her voice. She’s not a slow music singer, but I enjoyed completely.

Results: Ramiele Malubay is OUT. Was it irony that her mic went out during the group sing of 9 to 5? I think perhaps so.

If you want more details, here they are…

Bottom 3: Kristy Lee Cook, Ramiele Malubay, Brooke White

The Clark Brothers gave us This Little Light Of Mine. I’m really not sure how you can take a song like that and make it rock-and-roll. Oh wait, you can’t. Simply ridiculous. I think this deserves the WTF??? And that guitar picking…um ok talent-wise that was cool, but picking that song was absolutely ridiculous and stupid and lame and ghastly, and offensive. I sang that song in vacation bible school people. *sigh*

And another WTF - what was up with the Idol’s commercial? Stupid. Useless.

Dolly Parton looked fantastic. I did NOT, however, like the song.
